Some really good funky fusionjazz here. Dizzy Gillespie - New Wave (Phillips) A couple of really good tracks and a fine jazz album. John Schroeder Orchestra - Dolly Catcher (Piccadilly) Not easy to find and was glad to find a decent copy for a good price. Nina Simone - Sings The Blues (RCA) From Carlitos' s stall this morning for £2 . Another superb album from her. Thanks for the recommendation Carlos. Samantha Jones - My Way (Contour) Just needle dropped it so far. Uncertain about it. The Stranglers - IV (United Artists) This is the one with "Peaches" but "Nice N' Sleazy" isn't on it. Good album though and only a quid. It arrived via Amazon this morning together with another pack of singles through GEMM. Been very busy this week with a survey outside of various turf accountants, mostly London Road and Dyke Road areas. Despite this "credit crunch" work is still coming in on a very regular basis. I look forward to 2 Aug as that day i shall be in London on another round-trip vinyl hunt,and take in two  Cafe Nero mystery shop visits. The two in Essex Road will be visited. Haggle does have some reasonably priced stuff but it is a bit of a mess in there. Flashback in the same street has a good basement of stuff. Ideally i would like to start up in Walthamstowe,esp the indoor market on Wood Street (Vinyl Village is based in the market), and also Tythe market might be worth a look. Subsequently i had to  take off quite alot of redundant and less redundant program,files and mp3s. I got back to 7.5 GB of memory. So today rather than have that same problem at a later stage bought an external hard drive from Maplins. A Western  Digital one which has a massive 640 GB of capacity (comapred to the weedy 80GB on my existing PC) for a mere £65.00. I have ported all my music files on to it , in total 28GB of it, and freed up almost half my existing  disk space,and with plenty of room for loads more mp3s and videos to go on the secondary drive. It was dead simple to install as well. Just plug and play. http://davesmusictank.multiply.com/journal/item/2038/Disk_Space Thu, 24 Jul 2008 05:31:00 -0000 Amancio D'Silva  Not strictly finds ,but two in the post this morning via the web - Just Brothers - Sliced Tomatoes / You've Got The Love To Make Me Over (Music Merchant 45 1972) Classic Northern stiomper and a soulful floater on the flip and an LP on the Italian Qbico label who love coloured vinyl apparently. Amancio D' Silva - Konkan Dance (Qbico) Modal sitar jazz from 1972 but not  reisssue,as it was never released at the time, byQbico (but don't know when). The album is in a dark plum colour and is probably the nearest i can describe it colourwise.  All Qbico releases are very limited and i often miss out but a trawl on the web gave me one copy for £17 but bloody worth it. It is an awesome record with Stan Tracey and Don Rendell on it. However one album did stand out with a couple of good country funk stuff on it - Elvin Bishop "Struttin'My Stuff (Capricorn 1975) The funkiest tracks being the title track and "Slick Titty Boom". It is a surprisingly good album overall The rest today are singles from a real record shop for £2 to £3 each. Denise La Salle - Now Run and Tell That (Janus) Nice picture sleeve Joy Lovely - In Orbit (Chess 1967) Classic Northen soul dancer. No fear as the usual dealers were nowhere around,as oe of them had a wedding the previous day and the other is now on holidays. Got some vinyl from Music Mania, and then did a mystery shop at The Grenadier Hove. Had an 8oz rump steak  washed down with red vino and then a beer. Today back in Worthing to do a late KFC shift. The Peddlers "Georgia On My Mind" (Philips) This is the Live At The Pickwick 1967 but with a different sleeve. I had some errands to do in the morning and this meant i only had the afternoon available. This was the challange as outlined in VG+ "All participants make their way to one local charity shop with a £10 budget. Buy records, good and bad, known and not known and keep a photographic diary of the whole experience. When your diary is ready and you have listened to the records purchased then you start a completely new thread in the General Natter Section entitled "[Insert silly vg+ name] and the £10 Charity Shop Challenge", your thread is not only a photographic diary of your day but also reviews of the records you have bought, and descriptions of the general merriment of your time in the challenge. Then all vg+ers contribute to the same thread with the usual mix of feedback. Anyway as i started the set this is what i spun - 1/ Ultrafunk - Who Is He And What is He To You (Contempo 7") Funky Brit funk version of this well known tune 2/ J Gwangwa & African Explosion - African Sausage (Jamal 7") 3/ Bill Black's Combo - Turn On Your Love Lights (Hi 7") Phil rather like this one, a crisp organ grinder of a tune. 4/ Bobby Bland - Poverty (Duke 7") An old soul number i never tire off. 5/ Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa (Festival LP) One of my all time favourites needed a spin. 6/ Le Feu Latin - Estrellas De Fania (Fania 7") 7/ Herbie Mann - Philly Dog (Atlantic LP) A recent purchase , well same morning, for this Jazz Master comp,cover mouldy but vinyl was fine. Having siad that,the album is suprisingly good. Blah! Anyway did manage to get the street survey done yesterday as it turned to be a relatively dry afternoonPopped into the charity shop on the opposite side to Waitrose and bought some singles (five in total)  including three different Echo and the Bunnymen singles all released at the same time (all in 1997).  The three are part of a three disc package i presume in different coloured sleeves. Nice though. Last night saw the first of a new series on BBC1 , Bonekickers, with an interesting start that bodes well for a promising new series. So i thought well perhaps we don't need them. Find out the cost of hiring the Albert pub and get other like minded people involved. perhaps Do a subscriton thing or a small cover charge so that expenses are reaped back. The bar will be open but people buy their own drinks of course. Plus make it a monthly affair. Styles of music could include reggae,jazz,folk,soul,60s beat,garage and psyche stuff,funk and afro funk etc. In other words a cool place to be. (Decca) well i know its not the cookest track but it always make me smile Bobby Bland - Poverty (Duke) I have known this track for years since my early soul days and it's nice finding it again. Little Milton - I'm Mighty Grateful (Checker) One i remember from the old Northern Soul days, a bluesy beat not arf. Robert Banks - A Mighty Good Way (MGM) One i have not heard of before but a good slice of uptempo soul. Sly and The Family Stone - Runnin' Away (Epic) Classic Sly from72 and one which i use to have many years ago. Still sounds way ahead of its time. A couple of quid well spent. Also got the Tinawiren CD "Aman Iman (Water is Life)" as they are coming to Brighton August bank holiday and i was curious about them.
